Igniting Curiosity: SGCA’s Science Fair Sparks Wonder and Discovery

On March 14th, students from the Sequoia Grove Charter Alliance (SGCA) community came together for an electrifying virtual event—the 2nd Annual Science Fair. With projects ranging from engineering marvels to biological discoveries, they showcased their hard work, creativity, and passion for scientific exploration.

To help students prepare, SGCA teachers Sara Infante, Presley Anderson, and Kelsie Woody led the Science Fair Club, where students explored the scientific process, developed their projects, and gained the confidence to present their discoveries. One parent shared, “It was very helpful to join the Science Fair Club before creating our project. Thanks to all the staff and also fellow students who bravely shared their ideas and work!”

Students and staff “bubbled” with excitement as SGCA’s own Scott Emerson, aka the Professor of Wonder, kicked off the event with an explosive elephant toothpaste experiment and mesmerizing floating bubbles. His dynamic presentation embodied this year’s school theme—Stay Curious—reminding students that science is all about discovery and wonder.

Adding to the success of the event were Anush V., Grace Z., and Emily C., who served as MCs. All three girls are enrolled in the VA Student Leadership class led by Mrs. Stacey Preach. With confidence, enthusiasm, and a natural stage presence, they kept the event running seamlessly, engaging the audience and celebrating each participant’s hard work. When asked about her experience, Grace said, “It was a cool experience to be able to introduce each student and their science experiment, and also announce the winners. Overall, I loved being a part of multiple grade students, and not just high schoolers.”

Of course, no science fair would be complete without celebrating the remarkable efforts of our students. Every participant will receive a special Science Fair pin and certificate to proudly display. For those whose projects stand out, winners will be awarded a certificate, a medal, and a book dedicated to the scientist after whom their award is named. These recognitions not only honor the hard work and creativity involved but also inspire continued curiosity and achievement in the field of science.

Congratulations to this year’s Winners:
