Keeping Up with the California Cadet Corps!
December 2024
During winter break, the Sequoia Grove California Cadet Corps (CACC) 434th Battalion was busy making an impact in our community!
Our cadets had the incredible honor of serving as the clean-up crew for over 90 guests at a special celebration honoring WWII POW, Fighter Pilot, and Veteran COL Joe Peterburs on his 100th birthday at the Auburn Airport. Not only did they meet this real-life superhero, but they also had the privilege of talking with other Veterans who have bravely served our country.
The evening was made even more memorable with inspiring guest speakers, including Senator Roger Niello (California Legislature, 6th District) and Congressman Kevin Kiley (CA-3). Veterans receiving special recognition for their combat service included:
- Veteran Master Sergeant Cletis Bailey
- WWII Veteran Private First Class Joe Gallegos
- Vietnam Veteran Staff Sergeant Bruce A. Wiener
- Vietnam Veteran Private First Class Steven Adamak
This inspiring event was filled with meaningful conversations, stories, and a chance to give back to those who’ve given so much for our freedom. We encourage you to learn more about COL Peterburs’ courageous story by researching his story.
A special thank you to Sean Moncalieri, Chaplain (VFW Post 10165), for helping connect our cadets to these incredible opportunities.
Thank you, COL Peterburs, and all our Veterans, for your service and sacrifice. We are so proud of our Battalion 434 Cadets for their dedication to serving the community, and we love hearing about the amazing things they have been up to! Essayons!
