Sequoia Grove’s 3rd Annual Spelling Bee
A Buzz-Worthy SuccessSequoia Grove Charter Alliance recently hosted its 3rd Annual Spelling Bee. Featuring 34 participants—20 students from 3rd-5th grade and 14 students from 6th-8th grade—this year’s virtual Spelling Bee conteststants amazed us with their spelling skills and courage under pressure. Hosting an annual Spelling Bee includes a lot of preparation and behind the scenes work. For the past several months this year's host, Sara Satterfield, has been busy managing registration, communicating with parents, and working with the rest of the team to ensure the competitions run smoothly come event day. Help us extend a heartfelt thank you to this group of teachers who helped make this event a success!
Parents, siblings, teachers, and members of our school's administrative team were all in attendance to watch our students shine. "These kids are impressive," noted Allie Suydam, Director of Schools. "They are building so many skills beyond spelling: presentation, poise, confidence, calm under pressure, dealing with disappointment, and grit! These kids are going places!" While it's heartbreaking to watch students be eliminated, the excitement builds round after round as the words become more challenging. In both the 3rd-5th and 6th-8th grade bees, the competition dwindled to two, with each pair of students taking turns until a winner was determined. Congratulations to Our Winners! 3rd-5th Grade:
6th-8th Grade:
While competitions like this are designed to recognize our best spellers, we honor and celebrate every student who signed up to participate in this year's event. The courage and effort it took to join and practice make each of them a Spelling Bee Champion. Thank you to our families, staff, and students for making this sweet tradition a success year after year! |
